Fooch’s update: Here’s the full Lions practice participation report for Wednesday.
DNP: T Andrew Donnal (knee), G T.J. Lang (back)
Limited: DE Ezekiel Ansah (shoulder)
Full: RB LeGarrette Blount (shoulder), QB Matthew Stafford (shin)
The Detroit Lions did not have a full practice on Wednesday, instead choosing to conduct a walkthrough as their players recover from bumps and bruises suffered during Week 1 Monday Night Football.
Teams have to release three practice participation reports each week, even when they don’t have a normal practice. A walkthrough report is an estimation of what the player would have been classified as if practice had gone on like normal, so it gives us a an idea of where a player stands. The Lions report included three notable names.
Quarterback Matthew Stafford suffered a knee injury and had the wind knocked out of him on two separate plays Monday, but was listed as a full participant in practice. He said on Tuesday that the knee injury was just a hyperextension, and he’ll be okay this week.
Edge rusher Ezekiel Ansah was listed as a limited participant on Wednesday. He left Monday’s game with a shoulder injury, but an MRI came up negative for any kind of significant injury, per Adam Schefter. Ansah is hopeful he can play on Sunday, but he’ll be one to watch on the Thursday and Friday practice reports.
The biggest concern for the Lions might be guard T.J. Lang. He suffered a back injury at the end of Monday’s game, missing the final snap. He was listed as a DNP for Wednesday’s session. Again, it’s a simulated report, but he will be a big name to watch on Thursday and Friday. If Lang cannot go on Sunday against the 49ers, Kenny Wiggins or Joe Dahl would play in his place.
