Kyle Shanahan details 49ers players who won’t practice on Wednesday

The 49ers are a little banged up heading into Week 2.

Fooch’s update: The team released their first practice participation report of the week. Adrian Colbert was added to the DNPs with a hamstring injury. Jaquiski Tartt (shoulder), K’Waun Williams (rib), and Ahkello Witherspoon (ankle) were all added to the limited list.

DNP: S Adrian Colbert (hamstring), G Joshua Garnett (toe), WR Marquise Goodwin (quadricep), G Mike Person (foot), LB Malcolm Smith (hamstring), T Joe Staley (not injury related – vet day)

Limited: OL Erik Magnuson (hamstring), S Jaquiski Tartt (shoulder), CB K’Waun Williams (rib), CB Ahkello Witherspoon (ankle)

The San Francisco 49ers will have several players missing Wednesday’s practice, all of whom are questionable for Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions. The list includes right guards Joshua Garnett and Mike Person and wide receiver Marquise Goodwin. Linebacker Malcolm Smith remains a question mark, while offensive lineman Erik Magnuson is likely to at least advance to individual drills on Wednesday.

The team promoted guard Najee Toran from the practice squad to provide some line depth. Mike McGlinchey proved he can play some guard work, but as McGlinchey said on Tuesday, he’s expected to play tackle barring another code red situation. The fact that they promoted Toran today suggests to me that one of Garnett or Person won’t play, but we’ll find out as the week progresses.

Marquise Goodwin is a question mark this week due to a deep thigh bruise. Dante Pettis replaced him last Sunday, and would be in line for a big work day this Sunday if Goodwin can’t go. It could also mean Richie James gets to debut on the game day active roster.
