The San Francisco 49ers edged out the Detroit Lions in Week 2, and kicker Robbie Gould has been honored for his performance. Gould was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week following a game in which he converted all three of his field goals and three extra points.
The three field goals give Gould 29 straight field goal conversions dating back to last season. That is a franchise record, surpassing Phil Dawson’s previous record of 27. Gould is in the final year of his contract, and at 35 years of age is not showing any signs of slowing down.
It was a big day for 49ers special teams. Aside from Gould, D.J. Reed had a 90-yard kick return (more to come on that), and Raheem Mostert had three special teams tackles, including this huge one. The 49ers named Mostert their special teams player of the game, according to Chris Biderman.
