49ers have no successful waiver claims

The 49ers roster is likely not fully settled, but it did not change with Sunday waivers.

The NFL waive wire ran at 9 a.m. PT Sunday morning, and the San Francisco 49ers ended up with no successful claims. We do not know if they put in any claims, but according to reporter Howard Balzer, they were not assigned any players via waiver claim.

The 49ers still have some questions on the roster, with running back being the most notable. Alfred Morris and Matt Breida are looking like the top two backs on the depth chart, but it’s safe to say the 49ers will add another running back for depth. Raheem Mostert can work some carries, but he is primarily a special teams player.

It is also worth noting the 49ers did not have any of their roster cuts claimed elsewhere, according to Belzer.

Any player not claimed off waivers is now a free agent. Additionally, any player with less than four accrued seasons that was waived today to make room for waiver additions will go through waivers tomorrow (or Tuesday if Labor Day means no waivers). It provides a second round of players for the rest of the league to consider.

The 49ers have a 53-man roster in place, and will soon have their practice squad settled. However, between now and next Sunday, there will be changes.
