Final preseason Super Bowl 53 odds before Thursday Night Football

The 49ers improved, and there’s a longshot I really like.

The 2018 NFL regular season gets underway in a couple hours, and that means it is time to lock in those final Super Bowl 53 odds before we get real insight into where teams are headed this year. Bovada has released their latest odds, which are their fifth iteration of the year. You can view them at the bottom of the page, or at Bovada.lv.

The odds will be updated each week as the season progresses, and that means that tonight’s kickoff opener between the Atlanta Falcons and Philadelphia Eagles offers the first glimpse at where things might be headed. The Eagles currently are tied for the second best odds (17/2), while the Falcons have the eighth best odds (15/1).

Meanwhile, the San Francisco 49ers are tied with the Houston Texans and Los Angeles Chargers for tenth best odds (20/1). The 49ers opened at 20/1, and climbed as high as 14/1 midway through the early free agency period. Their odds moved to 15/1 after the draft and then 22/1 two weeks ago. It’s interesting that their odds got better this week even after Jerick McKinnon’s injury. The odds moved because people are betting on the 49ers, so that’s certainly a curious one.

The Los Angeles Chargers are getting some love around the media, while I’m amazed the Raiders are still only 35/1. I wouldn’t touch them with a ten-foot pole. The Chicago Bears at 66/1 might be my favorite of the longshots. That defense was already on the rise before they added Khalil Mack, and the offense could be something to behold with Matt Nagy taking over as head coach. I don’t think they will actually win the Super Bowl, but if I was going to bet on a long-shot, they might be my pick.

Who jumps out at you as an early sleeper pick based on these odds?
