The San Francisco 49ers aren’t playing for anything this month, but there is still reason to keep an eye on the playoffs. Kyle Juszczyk and George Kittle are already headed to the Pro Bowl as a starter and reserve, respectively, but some of the team’s alternates might earn a promotion to reserve as the playoffs wrap up.
Defensive tackle DeForest Buckner stands a good shot of getting the call. Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Fletcher Cox suffered a foot injury in the Eagles divisional round loss to the New Orleans Saints. His status is unclear, but it would make sense for him to take the Pro Bowl off if there are any questions about his foot.
Whether or not Cox is available for the Pro Bowl, the other player to watch is Aaron Donald. The Los Angeles Rams are headed to the NFC title game, and if they beat the Saints next week, Donald will not be available for the Pro Bowl. Buckner could replace him as well.
Speaking of the Rams, linebacker Cory Littleton was voted onto the Pro Bowl as a special teams player. 49ers linebacker Mark Nzeocha is an alternate as a specialist, so he could be looking at a spot in Orlando.
Kicker Robbie Gould is the 49ers other reserve, but barring something unexpected with Giants kicker Aldrick Rosas, it seems unlikely Gould will be going to Orlando.
