Good morning friends, happy Monday to you all. As I’m sure you’ve all heard by this point, the teams for the Conference Championship games have been decided, and although the Rams have advanced, they’ll be forced to visit the juggernaut that is the New Orleans Saints at home. The last time these teams played, they put together an instant classic in a rare game where a team putting up 35 points (Rams) still lost. Neither of these teams had a particularly impressive Divisional round, but next Sunday, it seems like we’ll all be Saints fans. Who Dat.

In the AFC, the Patriots and Chiefs will play to decide who represents the conference in the Super Bowl, in what amounts to the least surprising matchup imaginable. Sure, the Chargers had a strong record in the regular season, but they never really jumped off the paper as a team that would continue to advance through the playoffs - by week 8, I think everyone knew NE and KC would be facing off in this game.

Either way, this next weekend of football will feature 4 of the top offenses in the league. By almost every measure, these are all top 5 offensive attacks, if not the top 4. Needless to say, it’s going to be an extremely fun week of playoff games, and should end up a pair of excellent shootouts. Just, uh, you know, let’s all hope the Rams lose. Because it would be funny.

Also, in 49ers news, there had been some reports on Saturday evening that Jeff Zgonina would not be returning as the DL coach for the team in 2019. As they say, where there is smoke, there is fire - and that proverbial fire has been fanned. More and more outlets are beginning on report on what was a rumor, and by now, it looks to be the way things will be. Zgonina seemed to be a good coach, but one has to wonder if Solomon Thomas’ disappointing freshman & sophomore years had anything to do with this decision. It’ll be interested to see who takes over, especially if the 49ers were to take an edge rushing defensive end in the first round - which would give the new coach a wealth of former first round picks with which to work. Stay tuned on this one.
