We are still a little under three weeks away from Super Bowl 53, but that won’t stop us from looking ahead to Super Bowl 54! On Tuesday, the Westgate SuperBook released the first odds for the 2020 Super Bowl in Miami. Plenty will change in the coming weeks and months, but for now, the SuperBook sees higher expectations for the 49ers.
The SuperBook has installed the 49ers at 40/1 odds, alongside the New York Giants and Carolina Panthers. There are 11 teams with longer odds than those three. The Los Angeles Rams are installed as the early favorite, at 6/1 odds, followed by the Kansas City Chiefs (7/1), New Orleans Saints (8/1), and New England Patriots (10/1). In the NFC West, the Rams are just ahead of the 49ers at 30/1, while the Cardinals are near the bottom at 100/1.
A year ago just prior to Super Bowl 52, the 49ers were installed at 20/1 odds for Super Bowl 53. Their odds adjusted slightly up and down over the course of the offseason and into the regular season, and then nose-dived after Jimmy Garoppolo tore his ACL.
Super Bowl futures are meant to draw as even a distribution as possible to prevent a sportsbook from being on the hook too badly for one team. I think 49ers odds will get better heading into training camp, but oddsmakers and the public want to see how Garoppolo responds when he returns to practice and then game action. And of course, this also depends on how the rest of the offseason goes for the 49ers. They have serious draft picks and a lot of cap space, which could shake this roster up considerably. And of course, the Antonio Brown situation will remain on the radar. Plenty could shake up these odds.
