Kyle Shanahan is set to lose another member of his coaching staff to the Denver Broncos. Former 49ers QB coach and new Broncos offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello is working on bringing 49ers offensive assistant T.C. McCarthey to his staff. McCarthey interviewed with the Broncos to be their new quarterback coach and has been reported to have accepted the position.
The 49ers are interviewing formers Patriots receiver Wes Welker for a spot on the offensive coaching staff. It is reported that he is likely interviewing for the wide receivers coach position. Mike LaFleur currently holds the position, but he also has another title as passing game coordinator, so they may have Welker take the receiver spot and LaFleur focus on working with Kyle game planning.
The coaching staff has already hired two new members to the staff and are expected to hire Shane Day, the former Miami Dolphins’ tight end coach, as their quarterback coach. He is replacing Rich Scangarello. He worked as a quarterbacks coach with the Chicago Bears during the 2010-2011 seasons. He worked with the 49ers from 2007-2009 as their offensive quality control coach.
