Golden Nuggets: Wildcard Weekend Wraps Up

A daily compilation of 49ers news from around the net. Monday, January 7th, 2019 edition.

Good morning folks, due to a very early morning, we’re going to be trying to keep this edition short and sweet. As one of the least memorable wildcard weekends in recent history wrapped up, one player will surely remember today for the rest of his life. Chicago Bears kicker Cody Parkey was 3 for 3 on the day, until a walk-off field goal to win the game hit the upright, and then the crossbar, and then fell harmlessly into the endzone. Like that, the game was over, the Bears lost by 1 point, and Cody Parkey’s career is set to take some serious turns over the coming months.

Of course, that missed field goal has brought the 49ers back into the rumor mill, as though the Antonio Brown sweepstakes aren’t enough. 49ers kicker Robbie Gould, who has been a cornerstone of the team, having made an astounding 72 of 75 field goals over the past two years, is set to enter free agency this offseason. Having previously spent 11 seasons with the Chicago Bears, who are likely to be in the market for a new kicker after Parkey’s blunder, links the two in a proverbial low-hanging fruit of a rumor. Of course, there’s nothing concrete to back this up, but I mean, it really does make a little too much sense to not talk about it.
