The 49ers practiced Wednesday afternoon, and there were a handful of players that sat out.

DT DeForest Buckner (likely veterans day off)

TE George Kittle (groin; did stretch)

WR Deebo Samuel (groin)

CB Ahkello Witherspoon (foot)

NT D.J. Jones (hammy)

OTJoe Staley/Mike McGlinchey (rehabbing)

FB Kyle Juszczyk (knee)

Raheem Mostert is day-to-day with a knee sprain, per Kyle Shanahan.

Richard Sherman, who had a stinger during Sunday’s game that caused him to miss five plays, practiced. K’Waun Williams was practicing in a non-contact blue jersey. Williams exited Sunday’s game with a hamstring injury. If there is ever a week for the 49ers to be cautious with injuries, this is the week. D.J. Reed filled in nicely in the slot with Williams not playing, so this could be a chance for him to step in. Samuel was running sprints on the sideline

Both Staley and McGlinchey were rehabbing on the side. Staley was pushing around a weighted sled. The hope is for Staley to return by the end of the month. McGlinchey said his goal is to return in four weeks after last week’s knee scope to repair his right MCL. So there’s a chance Joe Staley and McGlinchey return for that Nov. 11 Monday night game when they host the Seahawks. The 49ers would love to be full strength heading into that matchup.

McGlinchey talked about having to watch the 49ers game from his couch last week:

“I had to sit home this weekend and watch my team on television, which sucked. But at least they’re showing up and showing out and kicking a*s, and that’s all you can ask for.”

McGlinchey added that he was pretty cerebral about watching the game and taking note of what the offense was doing... until the defense took over at the end. “That’s when I started going pretty nuts,” McGlinchey said.

Staley’s daughter, Grace, has made get-well cards for McGlinchey and Kyle Jusczcyk.
