Jimmy G = John Elway

You may think I'm crazy. And I probably am.

But I'm not talking about prime John Elway that carried Broncos' teams with crappy defenses. I'm talking about Elway at the tail end of his career, when he had strong defenses, Terrell Davis at running back and Mike Shanahan as his head coach.

The Broncos won back-to-back Super Bowls in Elway's last two seasons with Elway as a game manager, which is the role Jimmy G is cast in.

Yes, Jimmy G is the franchise QB. At least, that's what his paychecks say, along with that exquisite jawline.

But unlike your typical franchise QB that throws the ball 40-50 times a game, all Shanahan wants him to do is run the offense and limit his bonehead throws to 2 or less.

Maybe in a couple of years, after gaining more experience and totally recovering from his torn ACL, and with more experienced (and better) targets, Jimmy does become The Franchise.

For now, all he's asked to do is be Game Manager. A role that is usually a backhanded compliment, but with a 3 headed monster at running back and an elite defense, that's all he needs to be.

While Elway at the ages of 37 and 38 had little choice but to accept that role because of diminished skills due to age, Jimmy could argue that at 27 he's way too young. He's in his prime and should be slinging the rock all over the place.

But to Jimmy, the most important stat is the win-loss record. You can bash his 1-1 TD to INT ratio and his 200-plus yards per game, but ultimately the guy is 11-2 as the 49ers' starter.
