Final Score

The 49ers managed to get a final field goal out of Robbie Gould in this mess of a game and are leaving FedEx Field with a 9-0 win. The elements were not kind, and they definitely played a role in this, but the defense pitched a shutout, and if anything the 49ers showed they can play anywhere in any condition.

Scoring update

After some nice 4th down plays and Jimmy Garoppolo having quite enough of this bullstuff, the 49ers moved the ball inside the 10. Unfortunately the weather stopped them again and Robbie Gould had to kick a field goal. It is good and it’s 6-0, 49ers.

Turnover alert

Washington finally coughed the ball up with a fumble. Julian Taylor (who you can see stop them on a 4th down stop) got the ball and returned it. Too bad no one may score again today.

Scoring update

We FINALLY have points. Robbie Gould managed to get a 28-yard field goal in and it’s 3-0 49ers. These are pretty valuable today, folks.

2nd half update

Jimmy Garoppolo threw a pick on fourth down which was like a bad punt return. Washington could do nothing on the series and went three and out thanks to this:

2nd quarter defense

Don’t you just love this:

1st Quarter update:

Washington used Adrian Peterson to truck across the field without passing at all for a drive that lasted almost half the quarter. The 49ers woke up at their 30 thanks toa gifted holding penalty against Washington. Washington tried a 39 yard field goal but missed it wide right. IT’s 49ers ball.

1st quarter update:

49ers won the toss and will defer to the second half.

Weather Update

It is POURING rain in DC. Multiple reports are citing puddles and a flooded field for the game. The 49ers will be battling the elements today.

Washington inactives:

CB Josh Norman
RB Chris Thompson
TE Vernon Davis
S Deshazor Everett
QB Colt McCoy
LB Josh Harvey-Clemons
G Wes Martin

Active/Inactive Update

The following players are inactive for the game per Matt Barrows. These should come as no surprise. :

QB CJ Beathard
WR Deebo Samuel
CB Ahkello Witherspoon
FB Kyle Juszczyk
T Mike McGlinchey
T Joe Staley
NT D.J. Jones

Update: 8:30

Raheem Mostert is active. The 49ers have all the running backs to play with.

Overview

Here we go into Week 7 of the San Francisco 49ers season. They haven’t had a start as good as this since 1990 and they will be trying to ride that momentum as they head to Washington. This will be a morning game with a 10:00 AM start time. Chris Myers will be calling the game with Daryl Johnston on color.

Not only are the 49ers undefeated, but they have looked very convincing doing it. They just stomped the Los Angeles Rams last week 20-7 with a score that just doesn’t indicate the dominance the team had. The 49ers defense has been lights out and is making a case for best in the league.

Washington is a mess. They fired Jay Gruden earlier this season and have turned to Bill Callahan for interim duties. The problem with Washington has not been the coaching, it’s been a petty and spiteful front office that is more concerned on anything that isn’t winning. Quarterback Alex Smith went down last year with a leg injury and a lot of morale may have gone with that. Washington drafted quarterback Dwayne Haskins, a hometown hero, but he has shown he will need a lot of work before he can be a gamechanger. The defense and offense are both devoid of talent either because of the roster or injuries.

The 49ers will be going into this without tackles Joe Staley and Mike McGlinchey, wide receiver Deebo Samuel, fullback Kyle Juszczyk, defensive tackle D.J. Jones and cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon.

Washington will be without tight end Vernon Davis, safety Deshazor Everett, linebacker Josh Harvey-Clemons, guard Wes Martin , and running back Chris Thompson
