Here we go into Week 8 of the San Francisco 49ers season. They haven’t had a start as good as this since 1990 and they will be trying to ride that momentum as they host the Carolina Panthers This will be an afternoon game with a 1:05 PM start time. Dick Stockton will be calling the game with Mark Schlereth on color.
There has been no stopping the 49ers so far. They are 6-0 and riding off some convincing victories with their defense. They just got done fighting Washington and the elements at FedEx Field with a 9-0 shutout. They also got out of there injury free. There is a new face to the team, however. They made a trade with the Denver Broncos for wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders. The Broncos get a third and fourth-round pick while the 49ers get Sanders and a fifth-round pick. This gives quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo a much-needed pass-catching weapon on the field and the 49ers that potential No. 1 receiver. Kyle Shanahan has said Sanders will be involved in the game plan, so his recent addition status shouldn’t deter him from catching some balls.
The Panthers are having their own success. Quarterback Cam Newton went down and in came Kyle Allen. While he has loved to fumble the ball (6 fumbles so far), and taken his share of sacks (10) he has yet to throw an interception in 2019. His debut in Week 3 was 19 for 26 (73.08 completion percentage) 261 yards and four touchdowns. To say a controversy isn’t brewing would be incorrect. His numbers have gone back to planet earth in subsequent weeks, but there’s no denying that the 49ers defense has a new test in front of them. Outside of Allen, the 49ers also have to deal with Christian McCaffrey who has been the Carolina Panthers offense. The Panthers are 4-2 and Allen has not lost a game yet this year. This is going to be a football game.
The 49ers will be going into this without tackles Joe Staley and Mike McGlinchey, fullback Kyle Juszczyk, defensive tackle D.J. Jones and cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon.
The Panthers will be without quarterback Cam Newton, tackle Greg Little, linebacker and linebacker Christian Miller.
