According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the San Francisco 49ers have gotten inquires on backup quarterback C.J. Beathard. Schefter said Beathard is “a name that bears some watching at the trade deadline.” That’s something I didn’t expect to see on Sunday morning. If teams were calling about Nick Mullens—the Niners actual backup—then that would make sense. Teams are inquiring about San Francisco’s third-string quarterback? I’d imagine Kyle Shanahan would be more than happy to recoup some picks that they lost when the 49ers traded for Emmanuel Sanders.
The trade deadline is October 29 at 1 p.m. P.T. So the 49ers will have some decisions to make over the next 48 hours. To me, there isn’t a decision to be made. If a team is offering a fourth-round pick for Beathard, you smile ear-to-ear on the phone, make sure the opposing team doesn’t hear you laugh, and accept the trade. Any compensation that’s more than a fourth-rounder is the icing on the cake.
Which teams do you think are calling for C.J.?
