A lot has been said about what the 49ers have done on the field, but something that doesn’t get enough limelight is the work these players do off the field. Arik Armstead in particular has done a lot of work for the youth in his hometown of Sacramento with his charity, the Armstead Academic Project.
The mission of the Armstead Education Project is to ensure every student, no matter their socioeconomic status, has direct access to a quality education through a positive learning environment and resources needed in order to thrive and be successful.
Armstead has poured a lot of time into this cause: hosting youth football camps and other workshops, and he even managed to raise $100,000 at an event during the summer. He has also pledged to donate to his charity for every sack and tackle he gets this year. I don’t know how the candidate for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award gets chosen, but with the amount of work he has put into this and his teammates rallying behind his cause, I think Armstead should be our nominee this year.
