The San Francisco 49ers today announced they had activated TE Garrett Celek to the active roster from the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform List. To make room on the roster, the team has waived CB Dontae Johnson.

Celek (6-5, 252) was placed on the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform List on August 31, 2019. Throughout his eight-year career with San Francisco, he has appeared in 86 games (30 starts) and registered 82 receptions for 1,104 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also has one reception for six yards in six postseason appearances with the team.

A 31-year-old native of Cincinnati, OH, Celek attended Michigan State University, where he appeared in 38 games (12 starts).

Celek will wear number 88.

Johnson (6-2, 200) signed with the team on October 3, 2019. He appeared in five games and registered two tackles on defense and two tackles on special teams. ‘

What this means

The team released a cornerback. That means they are probably getting another one back tongiht. This move is a good indicator that Ahkello Witherspoon will play Monday night. Because the team chose to keep two kickers, it’s also likely that Robbie Gould will miss tongiht’s game. Finally, this is likely an indication that George Kittle will not play against the Seahawks on Monday night football with Celek being activated
