With 40 seconds left on the clock, the 49ers were getting ready to get the ball in the right position for a field goal and take their game with the Arizona Cardinals to overtime. They had one timeout left and just got a first down—they had a chance for one, maybe two plays at the endzone.
The Cardinals lined up six guys to blitz Garoppolo. Garoppolo chucked the ball to Jeff Wilson Jr, and Wilson strolled in. If that sounds awesome, that’s because it was. The 49ers have been on the receiving end of these last-second heartbreakers that having them pull one out, regardless of your thoughts on the Cardinals (they are better than their record indicates) felt awesome.
Don’t take my word for it. The Checkdown has the crowd reaction to Wilson’s touchdown below. Watch and enjoy.
This was a huge game for the 49ers. After the nasty loss to Seattle, a game like this tells them they have all the tools, they just have to use them.
The crowd reaction to Jeff Wilson Jr.'s game-winning touchdown is giving me goosebumps @49ers pic.twitter.com/hhGY3bfcaS
