Punterville State of the Punter: Mitch Wishnowsky named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week

Mitch Wishnowsky had consistency. Hooray!

Mayor of Punterville here.

Citizens! Mitch Wishnowsky did not grace us with superb tackling ability, but crazy consistency on Thursday Night against the Arizona Cardinals. Our man had five punts, and all but two, he pinned the Cardinals inside the 20-yard line.

Now, the San Francisco 49ers defense couldn’t take advantage of such amazing field position for them, and the 49ers managed to get out of Arizona 28-25, but they still got a win.

Wishnowsky’s boots were consistently pinning, but they also were consistent with distance.

In other news, the NFL did not fine Wishnowsky for that vicious hit against the Panthers, because one does not simply fine Mitch Wishnowsky.

Wishnowsky was named the Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 9 after his performance against the Cardinals. He averaged 46.2 yards per punt. He didn’t have any touchbacks, and Arizona returned three of his punts. Wishnowsky had a hang time of 4.13 seconds. We’ve been on the Wishnowsky bandwagon all season, so it’s nice to see Mr. Boomin Onion(Joe Staley gave him that nickname) finally be rewarded for his play.
