Through the first 5 games of the season the 49ers averaged 179.8 rushing yards/game, since then they’ve only averaged 156.7 rushing yards/game. The difference? Kyle Juszczyk. When he went down against the Los Angeles Rams the drop in production was obvious. Ross Dwelley managed to fill in admirably in his absence thanks in part to some adjustments made by Kyle Shanahan, but it’s not an easy task to replace the best fullback in the game in an offense that relies so heavily on the position. Lucky for us, that will change on Monday night against the Seattle Seahawks when Juszczyk returns to the field.
“I feel amazing. I feel 100 percent, ready to ride. If we had had a chance to practice and I actually had a chance to hit some people last week, there might have been an opportunity for me to play, but since it was a Thursday it made things tough.”
Justin Skule and Daniel Brunskill have also done well filling in for Joe Staley and Mike McGlinchey, but they’ve had a lot of help from Jimmy Garoppolo and his ability to get rid of the ball fast.
“I’ve just been telling Jim, ‘Don’t change when I come back, now. Don’t hold the ball back there for 10 seconds,’” Staley said.
I am excited to see what Shanahan does with his offense back intact and firing on all cylinders. Now on to those links...
