Kyle’s update, 11:01 a.m.: Matt Maiocco is reporting that the 49ers have waived OT Sam Young.
Earlier Thursday morning, we listed San Francisco 49ers’ kicker Robbie Gould as one of five players with the most to prove during the second half of the season. Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Gould has a strained quad that puts his availability very much in doubt for Monday night. The Niners are signing Chase McLaughlin, which indicates Gould will likely miss the Seahawks game. The Athletic’s Matt Barrows believes Gould was injured during Tuesday’s practice. Gould’s injury is not believed to be serious or long-term, Rapoport tweeted.
McLaughlin was 6-9 in four games this season with the Chargers. He was 1-4 on field goals between 40-49 yards this season. He did make one from 50 yards out against the Titans. McLaughlin is an undrafted free agent rookie from Illinois. There has been no corresponding move yet, so that will be interesting, considering the injuries the 49ers currently have. Kyle Shanahan is scheduled to meet with the media Thursday at 12:25 p.m., so we’ll have more info once the head coach speaks. It’s a safe bet that an offensive lineman will be released, considering the Niners are expected to have two tackles back this week.
