The San Francisco 49ers returned to the practice field Tuesday afternoon to prepare for the Los Angeles Rams Sunday. Cornerbacks Richard Sherman and K’Waun Williams returned to practice. Kyle Shanahan said, “Sherm’s been better since he got in the locker room in New Orleans, according to him. Because he has that mindset, that’s what gives him a chance to be better.” Shanahan said Tuesday’s practice was a walkthrough, and they’ll be able to test Sherman’s injury more on Wednesday.
Jaquiski Tartt remains day-to-day as he waits for his “ribs to recover.” Tartt is closer than he was last week, but not good enough to go today. He’ll have a chance to practice Wednesday. Harris played well Sunday, but Tartt’s absence has been noticeable from a schematic standpoint. The 49ers defense has been more vanilla, in both man, zone, and with their blitzes, as that would put Harris and the depleted secondary in a vulnerable position. It’s not as if Robert Saleh doesn’t trust them; he just appears to be playing it safe. As you’ve seen, safe hasn’t worked. The defense needs Tartt healthy.
Mike Person has a sore neck and will be limited in practice. His status remains in the air for Saturday, though Shanahan didn’t say it was severe. If I had to take a wild guess, I’d say Person suits up. Here’s the practice report:
S Jaquiski Tartt (ribs)
DE Dee Ford (hamstring)
DT Jullian Taylor (elbow)
G Mike Person (sore neck)
If I told you at the beginning of the year you’d be begging for Jullian Taylor to get snaps, what would you have said? Well, that’s where we are heading into Week 16.
