No offense to Frank Gore but Roger Craig is my all time favorite 49ers running back. Not only did he have 8,189 yards rushing but he also had 4,911 yards receiving. I will never forget 1985 when he became the first player to have over a thousand yards rushing and a thousand yards receiving. Not to mention his being part of three Super Bowl wins.
While we are reminiscing about the 49ers glory years, don’t forget to check out Eric Branch’s flash from the past article on John Taylor leading us to a come from behind victory over the Los Angeles Rams. I love those “oh yeah, I remember that” moments. Thanks Eric!
We may not have a Roger Craig or a John Taylor but Kyle Shanahan is getting some amazing production from the players we do have. It is the first time we have had three running backs each run for over 500 yards since 1954. You can read about that in Matt Maiocco’s Million Dollar Backfield article.
Hopefully we can open some holes for all three of those running backs this week and Jimmy Garoppolo can find his wide receivers. I think he may have forgotten we had any of those last week.
I am happy to see both Richard Sherman and K’Waun Williams will be back. Now if we could only get Dee Ford back. With his limited playing this season, I did not realize how valuable he is on third downs until we did not have him. Our pass rush is not the same without him.
