This week’s podcast, we answer a handful of mailbag questions, from what happened to Matt Breida’s playing time to should the 49ers bench Ahkello Witherspoon for Emmanuel Moseley, and everything in between. Rich joins me as we also discuss how Jimmy Garoppolo looked Saturday night, whose was at fault on Emmanuel Sanders long third-down catch, and why the offense looks so much better when everyone is involved, namely Deebo Samuel.
We finished the episode by discussing the significance of Week 17’s matchup from a few different perspectives. To me, the only thing that is preventing San Francisco from beating Seattle is all the “soft factors,” aka the ones that have nothing to do with what happens on the field. The Niners are a better team, but when you haven’t beat a team at their place since 2011, it’s more mental than anything. It stays in the back of your mind, especially if you get out to a slow start, like, “here we go again.” One of the comparisons we used, to make a college football reference, was LSU’s head coach Ed Orgeron going into Alabama and beating them, and that team’s confidence went to the next level, and we’ve seen how that has worked out.
There’s a lot in this episode. Listen. Enjoy.
