Colin Kaepernick, Eric Reid settle lawsuit with NFL (Updated)

Their legal battle with the league is over.

Pat’s Update 2: And we have some speculation on the amount. Nothing is confirmed.

Pat’s update: The NFLPA issued a statement

Colin Kaepernick’s lawsuit with the NFL is over. In a statement provided by the Geragos & Geragos litigation firm, both Kaepernick and Eric Reid have settled their grievances. The details of the resolution are confidential:

The NFL also provided a statement mirroring the above.

In other words, Colin Kaepernick’s lawsuit has concluded. Kaepernick filed a petition claiming the NFL committed collusion to keep him out of the league. Eric Reid joined him in filing a few months later as well.

Collusion is difficult to prove, but Kaepernick got a few small victories including getting the NFL denied in a motion for summary judgment dismissed.

It took some time in the 2018 season, but Reid managed to sign a one-year deal with the Carolina Panthers. His season was marred with frequent drug tests, far more than expected. Reid has recently signed a 3-year extension with the Panthers.

Kaepernick, however, remains a free agent.

We may not know what the settlement was since it’s a confidentiality agreement, but it looks like the legal battle Kaepernick and Reid held against the NFL is over.
