The 49ers have an obvious need for a playmaking wide receiver. Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown met with Steelers owner Art Rooney on Tuesday and based on a social media post, declared that both parties believe a trade is the best way to end their relationship. While Antonio Brown would help the 49ers tremendously, another receiver would be a better pickup.

Odell Beckham Jr. has been one of the best young receivers in the NFL the last few years. It is obvious that the New York Giants are in rebuilding mode since it is time that Eli Manning was replaced as quarterback. If the 49ers had their option, making a trade for OBJ would be a much better option that trading for Antonio Brown. Odell is in his mid-20s while Antonio is over 30. Odell hasn’t even reached his prime as a receiver. Antonio is likely on his way down from his peak.

Paring a 26 year old Odell with a 27 year old Jimmy Garoppolo for the next few seasons would be a victory for the 49ers. It would set the 49ers up with cornerstone offensive pieces that they could build around. It’s unlikely that the Giants trade a player of Odell’s caliber, but the 49ers have the cap flexibility and draft picks to make a good offer to New York. It is reported that New York would listen to offers, so it is in the best interest of the 49ers to make their best offer and see if New York bites. If the 49ers could get Odell, the 49ers would be set with their #1 receiver with their #1 quarterback for a few years and to see what happens.
