It’s game day, y’all! We’ll have a game thread later this afternoon, but in the meantime, who are you rooting for in Super Bowl 53? The Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots kick things off at 3:30 p.m. PT on CBS, and I suppose you could make some arguments for rooting for (or against) either team.
The Patriots are an easy team to dislike given their run of success. If they win, they will match the Pittsburgh Steelers record of six Lombardi Trophies. On the other hand, if they lose, they will have the most Super Bowl losses in NFL history. You have to get there to get those losses, but I think we can enjoy a record-setting loss, amirite?
Reasons to root for the Patriots are fairly limited: 1) Tom Brady grew up a Patriots fan; 2) Trent Brown is playing well; 3) Generally enjoying this kind of dominance.
In reality, it’s more about potentially rooting against the Rams if you’re looking for a reason to support the Patriots. If you don’t want to see the 49ers rival win a Lombardi Trophy, that’s a pretty straight forward interest. Although Sean McVay is getting plenty of praise, he still learned as an assistant to Kyle Shanahan, so in some ways, it would reflect well on the 49ers head coach.
So, who are you rooting for tonight? If you can’t see the poll, click here.
