Raiders to play 2019 in San Francisco, assuming they get 49ers, NFL permission

The Super Bowl is a wrap, and just in time it appears the Oakland Raiders have figured out their home for the 2019 season. They are expected to play at the newly re-named San Francisco Giants stadium, Oracle Stadium. Raj Mathai is reporting the deal is done, while Alex Pavlovic is reporting discussions are ongoing.

The Raiders are moving to Las Vegas for the 2020 season, but in the meantime, the city of Oakland has told them they are not welcome at the Coliseum. The whole thing has been a mess and now has the city suing the Raiders and the NFL for antitrust violations.

Pavlovic’s report might be the more proper phrasing due to permissions required. NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport tweeted that the NFL and the San Francisco 49ers have to approve the deal to make it official. The 49ers are involved because even though they are based in Santa Clara, they hold territorial rights over San Francisco. I would be surprised if the 49ers did not give permission.
