49ers are hosting former Chargers CB Jason Verrett on a visit that will include a physical

Verrett is ridiculously talented, yet often injured

The 49ers certainly love to make things interesting. According to Ian Rapoport, The team are hosting former Chargers first-round CB Jason Verrett on a visit that will include a physical, source said. He’s played 5 games in the past 3 season, but the talent is there and there is significant interest in him. The physical is critical, obviously.

His talent is nothing short of stellar. Verrett was one of the best corners the minute he stepped on the field in the NFL. He hasn’t gotten significant action since 2016. That isn’t exactly yesterday. That’s also a couple knee injuries ago. This shouldn’t handcuff the team financially, as Verrett will likely be on a prove-it, heavy incentivized deal. Scheme wise, you won’t find a better fit.

It always comes back to injuries, though, doesn’t it? The team clearly wants to bring in competition opposite Richard Sherman, but in the slot as well. We might be looking at some day three picks, as well as undrafted free agents. We’ll keep an eye out to see if the 49ers end up signing Verrett.
