It’s not uncommon for players to work out with different players across the league. We see it every year all offseason. Sometimes you might see “rivals” that are working out together. It happens. Today, a video surfaced of San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Richie James running routes and catching passes from Kansas City Chiefs MVP QB Patrick Mahomes. It’s nothing crazy, just him catching a deep route:

Still, that’s fun.
James had a quiet rookie season on offense. He caught nine of his 13 targets for 130 yards and a touchdown. In his defense, with the quarterback situation being less than ideal, it’s tough to fully judge James as a player.
James showed that he has value as a return man for the 49ers. Especially against the Seattle Seahawks. He had a long kick return the first time the two met of 42 yards. The next time the two faced off, James took a kick 97 yards to the house. We’ll see if Kyle Shanahan has a bigger role in mind for James in 2019.
