Our friends over at Pats Pulpit have been talking about the players that the team has acquired in the trade where New England send Jimmy Garoppolo to the 49ers. In 2017, the 49ers traded their second round pick for Garoppolo. In terms of value, if Garoppolo continues to play like he has during his stint with the Niners, San Francisco won the trade and it’s not particularly close.
Look at the history of 2nd round picks for quarterbacks. You’re basically saying there’s no chance they amount to anything. That’s clearly not the case with Jimmy G. The Patriots traded Garoppolo when the 49ers were 0-8. When the Niners finished 6-10 under Garoppolo, that gave us the answer who won the trade. Even with the Patriots turning that pick into six players. This explains all the trades that led to these picks.
LB Christian Sam
CB Duke Dawson Jr.
CB Joejuan Williams
RB Damien Harris
OT Yodny Cajuste
QB Jarret Stidham
None of them will amount to the value of a franchise quarterback.
