Everyone has a story about how they became a fan of their favorite sports team. There will be some out there that have a parent that looked at them on a Sunday afternoon when they were 4-years old and said “we’re San Francisco 49ers fans”, and it’s been that way for the rest of your life. Some of you may have been born Niners fans; others may be relatively new. With two teams relocating to Los Angeles in the last couple of years, there have been fans finding new teams to root for. The 49ers are one of the most successful franchises in all sports, so I could see it.
The majority of fans experience a game and latch on from there. Candlestick Park hosted 25 playoff games, including nine NFC Championships. Forty-two years, three memorable catches, and thousands of memories.
If there would have been a game to convert me, I’d go way back to 1998 when Steve Young led the 49ers back from 21 points down, then 31-17, to beat some rookie named Peyton Manning. Those are the type of performances that stick with me.
So, when did you know you were a 49ers fan?
