Robbie Gould is hosting his celebrity golf invitational as he has done for a few years and he found time to speak about his current contract situation. The 49ers franchise tagged Robbie over the offseason, but he has yet to sign it. He has made it clear that he would like to return to Chicago, where he spent 11 seasons before being let go in 2016. The 49ers signed him to a 2 year deal before the 2017 season and he has been almost automatic for them. The Bears, on the other hand, have yet to find an adequate replacement for him and would probably love to have him back. The real reason he wants to head back to Chicago is because that is where is wife and kids are. They stayed in Chicago last season while he was on the 49ers.

Robbie has yet to report to the 49ers facility for practice, but the 49ers have made it clear that they have no plans to trade Robbie. His tag for next year is for $4.97 million. Since they will not trade him, Robbie only has 2 options. Sit out the season or kick for the 49ers. It’s unlikely that he would leave that amount of money on the table, so the likely situation is that he returns right before the start of the regular season. Head coach Kyle Shanahan would like to have Gould out there during practice, but he really only cares that Gould is ready when the regular season starts.
