Former San Francisco 49ers linebacker NaVorro Bowman informed the team today that he is retiring from the NFL and wanted to do it as a member of the team. The 49ers don’t have a roster spot to do a formal one-day contract signing, but Bowman wanted it clear he is considered to be going out as a Niner.
It’s impossible to mention Bowman without talking about “The Pick at the Stick.”
NaVorro Bowman intends to retire as a member of the #49ers, having authored one of the greatest plays in the team’s storied history. Congrats to 53 on an incredible career.

The third round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft formed one of the greatest duos at linebacker in history. Bowman and Patrick Willis were excellent. Even casual fans are aware of the impact Bowman had. That speaks to his greatness. Bowman was an All-Pro from 2011-13, and in 2015 again. He also made three Pro Bowls and helped the Niners get to three straight NFC Championships.
Here’s a video of Bowman Mic’d up:

Even if the 49ers aren’t able to sign Bowman and allow him to retire officially as a 49er, he will be remembered as one of the greatest linebackers, and probably defenders in team history. He had a heck of a run.
