49ers waive K Jonathan Brown

The corresponding move to sign Bowman, probably.

The San Francisco 49ers announced today that they waived kicker Jonathan Brown. Brown originally joined the 49ers after signing with the team as a free agent on March 8, 2019. Once Robbie Gould signed an extension a little over a week ago, this move was inevitable.

Brown was likely going to be the “camp leg,” while the team worked out a deal with Gould as the season approached. That’s no longer going to be necessary. Brown was on the Cincinnati Bengals roster and practice squad over the past few years. He didn’t kick much, but he did make all six of his field-goal attempts. Cincy waived Brown on September 1 of last year.

This was likely the corresponding move that allowed the team to sign LB NaVorro Bowman to a contract so he could retire a 49er. The depth chart looks weird with Bowman listed on there:
