According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, the Seattle Seahawks signed defensive tackle Earl Mitchell. Mitchell had played with the San Francisco 49ers for the last two years. Matt Maiocco suggested that Mitchell might return at a lower price, but nothing ever came to fruition.

This gives the Seahawks five former 49ers on their roster now. Mitchell, Mike Iupati, Cassius Marsh, Marcus Martin(woo boy was I wrong on him coming out,) and Nick Bellore. The Niners have two former Seahawk starters from the “Legion of Boom” days, in Richard Sherman and Malcolm Smith.

Mitchell is on the wrong side of 30, though he did start 28 games over the last two seasons. At this point, D.J. Jones and Sheldon Day can give the 49ers the same type of production at “1-tech.” Honestly, the focus should be getting Deforest Buckner on the field at the same time with Solomon Thomas, or another athletic interior pass rusher, as opposed to the bigger, “power” players on the roster.
