Which players are going to start on the PUP? I think Niners Nation fan reedkrase summed it up pretty well when he said:
“I expect a huge list followed by fan meltdowns with half the list or more being activated within a couple of days.”
Cam Inman makes his own predictions in the link below.
49ers camp preview: 10 who could start on injury lists
For years Stephanie McCarroll did a wonderful job explaining why so many players start training camp on the PUP list along with providing Niners Nation with the rules regarding the difference between the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform), the Non-Football Injury (NFI) and IR (Injured Reserve) rules, and used examples of 49ers players heading into each training camp. I could not possibly write anything even close to the quality of her articles, therefore I am providing a link to last years article.
NFL PUP list, Injured Reserve, NFI List rules
It is an amazingly well written article and I highly encourage anyone that has not read it to take the time. I personally could see everyone that was sidelined during the OTAs starting training camp on the PUP list.
In other news, I was surprised by the 49ers cutting Erik Magnuson and Alex Brown yesterday. While I would not have picked them as favorites to make the fifty three man roster, I thought Alex Brown might have given guys like Tim Brown a fight for their money and Magnuson would have at least stuck around as a camp body.
I think NN fan Mertons Merkin did a nice job of summing up my personal feelings of the 49ers scouts discontent with the coaching staff:
“I get it. I think it was probably accurate.
I think this is probably the real story behind the supposed rift between Shanahan and Lynch. That one got butchered, this here is the real story.
I just don’t care all that much. Because like you say, 32 teams, 32 mildly different ways of treating the draft. Who runs it in New England? The coaches do. And that works great. Who runs it in Philly? The scouts do. That works great too.
The building here was FO heavy for a lot of years, and now it’s not. That’s the reality. The draft has been trending more to the coaches. They might be wise to pull some of that back, because Solly was a stinker of a pick, and so was Joe Williams. I think where they have to learn is that if your coaches like a guy, and the scouts don’t even have them on the board, or nowhere near where you are taking them, you should heed that. But it’s coach-centric here. Because Lynch isn’t in charge of anything other than doing things Shanahan doesn’t want to do. So be it. That’s how it is here. Scouts aren’t important. Most of them aren’t very good anyway. If they want to be more valued somewhere else, go ahead and land that job.”
Anyway, it is nice to finally get back to football and some real news, I am looking forward to all of the daily interviews and numerous camp reports that will be coming in volume over the next few weeks. Now onto those sizzling hot links:
