Preseason Week 2 open thread: Friday night football

We’re back with another preseason thread, with three games on the NFL slate tonight.

Josh Allen faces Cam Newton tonight. Buffalo kicks off against Carolina at 4 p.m. PT. The Bears travel to New York to face the Giants at the bottom of the hour. You won’t see Saquon Barkley tonight, though. The final game tonight is the Miami Dolphins against Tampa Bay. Preston Williams, an undrafted rookie receiver, has been making waves during training camp.

You’d think there will be pro scouts from the San Francisco 49ers that are watching Tampa Bay. The first-team offense looked decent last week, but that defense is a mess. The secondary is young, and it shows. I know Kyle Shanahan is licking his chops and will have plenty of tricks up his sleeve for Week 1.

The Panthers offense is probably the only thing worth watching tonight. Christian McCaffrey always seems to have a big play, and Cam Newton has a pair of young receivers in Curtis Samuel and DJ Moore that are a walking big play.
