There’s always something that gets me to watch a preseason game for the 49ers. And something that has nothing to do with my job. Week 1 it was just the sheer fact a football game was on TV. Week 2 it’s the return of Jimmy Garoppolo.
Kyle Shanahan has confirmed that Garoppolo will be showing up in the 49ers second preseason game against the Denver Broncos. How much Garoppolo will get isn’t known (I’m expecting a series and that’s it), but finally, we can see Jimmy G back on the field.
I wish this could be in Santa Clara since the crowd of 10 people attending could go nuts when he makes his first pass, but just seeing him in uniform throwing the ball around is enough for me. Garoppolo was the beneficiary of some quality time with Mike Shanahan, Kyle Shanahan’s father and a lot of that time was uncovering the why of that Shanahan offense. For a playbook like the Shanahans’, the more time spent in the classroom the better. While I’d want some gameday reps, studying like this all season is the next best thing.
