Per Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Arizona Cardinals are closing in on a deal with veteran free agent, and former San Francisco 49ers first-round pick Michael Crabtree. He visited the Cardinals a few weeks ago, but the two couldn’t agree to a deal. The Cardinals just released Kevin White, and their fourth-round pick Hakeem Butler broke his hand earlier this week.
Crabtree returns to the NFC West where there is a history with some of the divisions’ most prominent cornerbacks. Throwback to November of 2017. The Denver Broncos are facing the Oakland Raiders. Crabtree gets into it with Aqib Talib in one of the more memorable altercations in recent memory. On why he snatched at Crabtrees’ chain, Talib famously said:
“He just been wearing that chain all year, man, it’s just been growing on me. And then he decided he’d had enough. I said if he wears that chain in front of me, I’m going to snatch it off,” Talib said. “He wore it in front of me, so I had to snatch it off. He started crying to the ref. He didn’t say nothing to me though.”
Crabtree, as expected, wasn’t happy.
“I really don’t like No. 21, though. I think he’s fake ... You aren’t tough. You aren’t defending anybody up like that. You’re acting. You’re snatching chains up on the field. What do you accomplish? Are you hard? Are you tough? Does that make you tough? You’re snatching chains in front of the police and take off running. That was childish, man.”
That was a fun back and forth. The Rams will face the Cardinals twice this year, but that’s not until December. I wonder if he will be around that long.
You know who else Crabtree has a history with? Yeah, him and Sherm go way back. Now you have to watch it.
