Golden Nuggets: The battle for roster spots intensifies

I don’t care whether your choice for the #6 wide receiver is Richie James, Jordan Matthews, or Kendrick Bourne, you have to love the competition. Each week, it seems like Kyle Shanahan is talking about a different one of them having a very good camp. I can’t even begin to guess which one will make the 53 man roster but I am thoroughly enjoying the battle.

The position I was the most worried about during the offseason was linebacker. Other than Fred Warner, I did not see a lot of promise at the position. Then we threw huge sums of money at Kwon Alexander. While realizing he was very talented, the whole idea of throwing that kind of money at a guy that was rehabbing from an ACL injury seemed pretty risky and I did not have a lot of faith in our backups. I don’t know who decided to draft Dre Greenlaw and bring in David Mayo and Azeez Al-Shaair but they are looking pretty intelligent at the moment. The addition of those players has definitely driven the competition to a much higher lever.

I don’t know if players like Jeremiah Valoago, Damontre Moore or Kevin Givens will make the team but coach Kocurek certainly has them fired up and getting themselves noticed. I think players like DJ Jones, Sheldon Day, and even Ronald Blair might want to take a look over their shoulder.

Tight end is another position that has a couple of openings. I don’t think things are as settled as some people think.

I know the fourth game of the preseason is mainly played by players that are not going to make the team but I think some position battles my come down to that fourth game. Now onto those sizzling hot links:
