Update:

The teams have traded field goals as the second quarter winds down. It’s 10-10.

End of 1st Q update:

The 49ers drove 78 yards after a couple of big plays. A nice deep pass to Richie James, and another one to Matt Breida. It’s 7-7.

Score update:

Solomon Thomas was in man coverage against a running back. Sixty two yards later, touchdown. 7-0, Chiefs.

We are back for another week of preseason football as the San Francisco 49ers get ready to take on the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium. This will be the final showing of the starters until the 2019 regular season begins. Kyle Shanahan has indicated quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will get to play at least a half in this game and other starters will be getting some generous time. The third week of preseason is seen as a dress rehearsal of sorts with some game planning involved. If there’s any game we can get some info from before the season starts, it’s this one. The game will start at 5:00 PM PT and air locally (you will need Gamepass to get it if you live out of the area).

Jimmy Garoppolo returned to action last week against the Denver Broncos, but he didn’t look too hot. While a lot of what happened in his three series can’t be solely blamed on him, he definitely will need to bounce back a bit to quell overreactions until the 49ers first game at the very least.

The 49ers defense was quite impressive last week, most notably the defensive line. It’s even more impressive when you consider they were missing Dee Ford, DeForest Buckner, Nick Bosa and others. Pat Mahomes is not Joe Flacco and if they can have the same type of play against that high-powered Kansas City defense, that can mean very good things for the regular season.
