Golden Nuggets: Getting Healthy

A collection of San Francisco 49ers related links for Tuesday, August 27th, 2019

The 49ers are set to welcome back a number of players from injury this week, the most notable of which is center Weston Richburg. He tore his quad in game 4 of last year and gutted it out to finish the season, getting surgery to reattach the tendon to his kneecap earlier this year. While it is admirable that he stayed in, his play suffered and brought with it a lot of criticism. Here’s what he had to say about last season:

“It was not a fun year at all. We were 4-12 which is not fun in the first place. When you’re dealing with something like that, when things don’t look the way you want, when you want them to, when you want to be very good it’s frustrating.”

None of that matters now that he is back. The interior line has floundered through the preseason, and his return is crucial to any potential success we might have this season. Shanahan plans to play him a little in the final preseason game to allow him to shake off any rust so that he is ready to hit the ground running when we get to Tampa.
