More and more teams around the NFL are featuring their documentary-style series, and the San Francisco 49ers are no different. Wednesday night was the fifth episode of the third season, “Brick by Brick.” In this episode, titled, “The Forty-Niner Way,” it recaps the 49ers traveling to Kansas City for their dress rehearsal matchup against the Chiefs.
The episode starts with head coach Kyle Shanahan talking about the responsibility as a head coach:
“I definitely feel blessed. It’s something that I’ve wanted to do my whole life. I always wanted to be a head coach. I only had two NFL teams I really liked growing up, the Denver Broncos, and the 49ers. So to actually be the head coach of the 49ers to come to a place that I grew up at. I feel so blessed, and I feel that every day. Going into my third year, we’re about exactly where I thought we’d be. I’m excited to get to this third year. I knew coming here how tough those first two years would be. I’m very proud of some of the stuff we did those first two years. Like I said before, I still believe we could have won more games than we did last year, with only winning four.”
Shanahan said he feels like the team can handle adversity. Not only mentally, because the team has already been through that, but he also said that physically, the 49ers could, because they’ve added some players. You could sense Shanahan’s confidence.
The episode also talks about how the Niners had to play three games in less than two weeks. That was a different type of adversity and challenge. Nothing like the NFL preaching player safety, but scheduling three games in ten days.
In this episode, you’ll also get insight on the teams’ nutrition, and Fred Warner mic’d up during the game. Check out the episode:
