Dee Ford has PRP procedure, out for another week

One day has turned to a few days, and now an additional week.

The San Francisco 49ers have been fortunate enough to not get nailed with the injury bug for the first few days of training camp, but they have had a few absences. First, Joshua Garnett will be missing three weeks due to his dislocated finger and now Dee Ford will miss at least a week due to a procedure on his knee.

Kyle Shanahan revealed the news to the media. On Thursday, Ford’s knee was giving him problems with what was reported as tendonitis and he was pulled as a precaution. Shanahan said then this was something that happened every year and was nothing to worry about. On Sunday it was reported he underwent a platelet-rich plasma treatment (PRP) to help with the tendonitis. This would likely mean Ford will be out for the 49ers first preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys.

So, another week without Dee Ford. Ford told the coaching staff that this was something that came up every camp, but in a quick search there wasn’t much available to the severity of it when he was with the Kansas City Chiefs, or if it was disclosed he underwent a PRP during his time there.

In any case, the 49ers defensive line will be without one of their main pieces while he gets this squared away. So far, it seems like nothing to worry about, but one day has turned into a couple days, and now an additional week.
