The San Francisco 49ers today announced that running back Jerick McKinnon has been activated from the Active/Physically Unable to Perform List. This has been a long time coming. Nearly a year ago, McKinnon suffered an ACL injury before he could ever take the field during a regular season game.
McKinnon suffered a minor setback, and that kept him from joining the team during the start of training camp. A little over a week later, McKinnon has been activated. Now it’s time to see what the Jet can do. It’s no secret that he is facing an uphill battle to get touches. McKinnon will need to show that he can be an asset in the passing game.
So far during practice, Breida has been the lone back during the two-minute periods, when the team plays fast. I think it’s safe to assume that’ll be a package for McKinnon. He likely won’t practice today, or even this week. I would imagine the goal is to make sure he’s ready to roll for the third preseason game.
