Oh no! It has been almost two weeks, and no wide receiver has stepped up other than an undrafted free agent that many of us didn’t even expect to make the team. That is kind of expected when rookies have already taken two of the six wide receiver spots, and you have two others that are returning from down seasons for one reason or the other. Two whole weeks and no one has stepped up, can you believe it? The negative Nellie’s are already coming out of the woodwork.
I have a lot of faith in our wide receivers, especially Pettis, Goodwin, and Samuels. I think Saturday night’s game will be a really good indicator as to how ready they are for the season, and they will respond to it accordingly in next week’s practices. Over the past couple of weeks, they have mainly been going over the plays and getting into playing shape. The real wide receiver competition begins Saturday night.
While Saturday night’s performances are pretty important, I think how they respond to their performance in the next couple of week’s practices is going to be even more critical. It is time to get serious and put their pedal to the metal. I am very excited about this year’s wide receiver competition, and I think it is only getting started. (Check out Matt Maiocco’s article on Jalen Hurd below.)
Another couple of players I am super excited about are Nick Bosa and Dee Ford. They may be injured at the moment, but they are going to get on the field together early in the season, and we have already had a sneak preview of what they can do. We just need to be patient, and feel lucky that their injuries are only minor.
