Golden Nuggets: Staley’s injury

The next 6-8 weeks will be big for the 49ers offensive line. Joe Staley suffered a broken fibula and just like that the o-line lost its leader. It is not expected that the team will try to trade for someone like Trent Williams, who has not shown up to play with Washington. He would be a logical choice to go after since he played under Kyle’s offense. But with Staley only missing a few weeks, giving up a draft pick for Williams does not make too much sense.

More than likely, Kyle Shanahan will scheme to make up for the lost of Staley. He will probably use one of the linemen he has on the team, move Mike McGlinchey over, or pick someone up such as Sam Young, who came in for a visit on Tuesday. Kyle will be able to draw up plays to help Staley’s replacement like moving tight ends on that side of the line to help bump pass rushers or more plays going to the healthy side of the line.

The only good news about this injury happening now is that the 49ers’ schedule through those weeks are not extremely difficult. Other than facing the LA Rams and the Seahawks, they play Pittsburg with no Big Ben, they play the Cardinals twice, the Browns, Washington, and the Panthers with Cam Newton not looking very healthy. Not really a murderers’ row of teams. This 1st week without Staley against Pittsburg will be a big 1st test. The Steelers were able to sack Russell Wilson 4 times on Sunday. They will try exploit Staley’s replacement so it will be interesting to see how Kyle schemes against it.
