Head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke to the media before practice on Wednesday, and let off with a pre-practice injury report. He said that the following players were limited:
Nick Bosa
Dante Pettis
Weston Richburg
Jason Verrett
K’Waun Williams
Jalen Hurd, Trent Taylor, and Joe Staley did not practice. Staley had a veterans day off. Shanahan said that he doesn’t expect Hurd to play on Sunday against Tampa Bay. He noted that Hurd has gone from “Day-to-day, from week-to-week. Most likely, not going to play this week. Haven’t ruled him out yet but if I had to say something today, he’s doubtful.”
That doesn’t sound promising for the team’s third-round pick. Hurd has been battling a back injury since joint-practices against the Broncos that has kept him from practicing for over two weeks.
On the wide receiver group, Shanahan said, “everyone up will play.” Assuming that the active receivers are Pettis, Marquise Goodwin, Kendrick Bourne, Richie James, and Deebo Samuel. Until somebody takes their game to the next level, it makes sense to use several receivers. I think that Samuel provides the biggest mismatch, and Rob Lowder will get into more of that later this week.
The official injury report should come out later today, but here is what Maiocco said:
