Who has the best shot at a promotion from the 49ers practice squad?

We’ve seen the 49ers promote multiple players each of the past couple of years. Who will it be this season?

The San Francisco 49ers finalized their practice squad on Sunday, and outside of Ryan Pope, each player spent the entirety of training camp with the Niners.

LB Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles
DL Kevin Givens
S Marcell Harris
TE Daniel Helm
WR Malik Henry
LB Elijah Lee
G Ross Reynolds
DL Jeremiah Valoaga
RB Jeff Wilson Jr.
OT Ryan Pope

The practice squad provides released players with a chance to continue their development and work to earn a spot on the 53-man roster this season or into the future. This time last year, Ross Dwelley, Emmanuel Moseley, and Nick Mullens were all on the practice squad. Each player has improved and made significant strides to earn a spot of the 53-man roster.

Looking over the current list of practice squad players, there isn’t an obvious choice to be promoted. It usually takes an injury to get one of these guys called up from the practice squad. Jeff Wilson is the most notable name. If one of the backs are banged up, he could get the call.

Kevin Givens is a sneaky option. The team could be facing a team that likes to spread it out, like Arizona, and want to give the undersized pass rusher some live reps. Lee has a chance at linebacker given the fact he played a lot on defense last season and has Special Teams experience.

If Antone Exum struggles covering kicks, that could mean a promotion for either Harris or Flannigan-Fowles.
